One of my all-time favorite cartoons comes from Peanuts.
Questions:
1. How might we judge whether a theology is sound — or not?
2. How can you prove from the Scriptures that every believer is to be a theologian?
In response to question 2..The book of Deuteronomy is filled with exhortations to teach the statutes of God to your children and your children’s children. The Psalms are filled with examples of the practical application of God’s word in the lives of individuals in the context of daily living. Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 8 when He say’s that “man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. Jesus said the Holy Spirit, who indwells individuals will guide them into all truth. The book of Acts is filled with examples of believers searching things out for themselves. Paul tells Timothy to be diligent to show himself approved…rightly dividing the Word of Truth. He also says to entrust those things to faithful men who will be able to teach others. Paul says that from childhood Timothy has known the sacred Scripture which are able to make one wise unto salvation through faith in Christ. Peter tells believers, as new born babes…desire the pure milk of the word. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head. ..I think, in a way, it’s a natural by-product of salvation to want to know more and more about our Lord and Savior through studying the Word of God.
