The Joy of Unit-Reading #3 (the book of Hebrews)

04 Oct

Many of the books of the Bible can be profitably unit-read.  By unit-reading, we mean reading straight through that book without stopping.

So often our knowledge of the books of the Bible is piecemeal.  Unit-reading through an entire book at one sitting gives us a sense of its overall theme.

Today’s book is the book of Hebrews. There is much in this 13-chapter book, Screen Shot 2015-09-25 at 6.53.58 AMbut my attention was drawn to the supremacy of the Lord Jesus and our need to persevere in our faith.

What is the role of the Old Testament to the believer today?

It seems that today many ethnically Jewish Christians are going back to keeping the Old Testament dietary laws and feasts. If they are doing these things in appreciation of their culture, that is one thing. If, however, they believe all Christians need to be following Jewish laws in order to honor God, it seems to me they are missing some of the message of the book of Hebrews (Galatians, as well).

Your thoughts?
