The Joy of Unit-Reading #44 (the Prophet Zechariah)

24 Apr

My goodness, there’s a lot in this “minor” prophet Zechariah! We learn of God’s jealousy over His people, that Satan is the great accuser of the saints, that we are not to despise “the day of small things”! It is the Spirit of God who sends God’s words through the prophets. We see the prophecy about the Messiah entering Jerusalem on a donkey and that shepherds can quickly become worthless shepherds! We are also told that Israel will “look on me, the one they have pierced”! Unit-reading a book like Zechariah is, indeed, a very profitable investment of an hour. Here are the notes I took as I read through this book:

One takeaway for me: The Lord who blesses is also a God who punishes (with plagues or panic). It is right to fear Him!

My prayer: “Lord, I know so little about the prophecy of Zechariah. Thank You for his message. Help me to worship You as I ought, ‘The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person.’ In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
