New Year’s Day Report — January 1, 2017!

01 Jan

Some of you might be wondering what has been happening in the life of the Dixon family since I lost my teaching job last June.  As some of you know, Columbia International University needed to “downsize” and I was one of four faculty members who were released.

As you can imagine, this was an incredibly painful time for Linda and me.  After almost twenty years at CIU, I was let go.   I felt that my teaching career was over, that I no longer had a ministry, and that I had to become a greeter at WalMart (those are very nice people, but you get my point).

But a small church in Augusta, Georgia, was goingscreen-shot-2016-12-30-at-6-27-33-am through a difficult time:  their pastor of 16 years was dying of cancer.  I volunteered to do some pulpit supply for them.  In consultation with their elders, I became their part-time interim pastor!  Linda and I travel each Sunday morning to Crossroads Fellowship Church.  If you click here, you will be taken to their website where they live-stream (and then archive) my messages.

The believers at Crossroads have been such an encouragement to us.  Would you pray that God would show us His perfect will for the next chapter of our lives?  Thank you.

    Hey Larry
Just a quick question – What do you think about David Platt and John Piper and their view on Lordship Salvation. Our church is doing a home bible study using David Platt’s book, Counter Culture. I’m sure there’s a balance but I’m afraid they may be heading off the deep end. Both pastor and asst pastor are graduates of MacArther’s school. Thanks Larry. Sorry I missed you at Cedarcroft.

Thanks for your two comments, Dave. Yes, sorry I missed you at Cedarcroft. I read Grudem’s book on (= anti) Free Grace movement and found it very helpful. Larry

Maybe you should have called Lee Stauf and he could call the hospital and get your old job back! As for reality God is still in control and promises to meet our needs and He came through as He always does, praise His name. Dave Bennett
