The Theology of Calvin . . . and Hobbes (Evil Santa!)
What an imagination! An evil Santa. While I believe some Christians can play the Santa game with their children, there may be some residual confusion for them in later life about . . . God! Any thoughts on how we can keep our children from confusing Santa and the true God of the Bible?

My mom grew up during the Depression. Her dad died when she was six months old, and my grandmother had six other children at home. There wasn’t much for Christmas, obviously. She asked for something special one year (a can of olives) from the community center Santa. She didn’t get it. She went up and kicked Santa in the shins the following year! So, my sister and I were always taught that Santa was the Christmas “spirit of giving.” My sister believed in the real thing, while I being more skeptical, and seeing all the Santas in different department stores, outgrew Santa pretty quick. But, I wasn’t disappointed as the idea of giving and helping others was always a big part of our family celebration, and that type of Santa theme continues still.
