Really Good News! A Deal for You!

Friends: I’ve come into a quantity of my two books DocTALK and DocWALK. The first is a survey of all ten areas of Christian doctrine (with some humor tossed in). The second is asking, “How do we put into practice what we say we believe?” Either or both of these would make a good Sunday School study, a home Bible study, or simply for personal edification.

Here’s the deal: I will send you both DocTALK and DocWALK if you will simply cover the cost of shipping. $10 ought to do it. If you can’t afford that, whatever you send me (our address: The Dixons, 117 Norse Way, Columbia, SC 29229) or send to our PayPal account (theoprof@bellsouth.net) will get you the two books! Really! Ten bucks. That’s less than the price of two pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks. Ummmm.

Pray for My Teaching Trip to Myanmar August 9-September 4! (Part 4)

Just a final post on my preparation to teach two theology courses to students at the South East Asia Bible College (here is their website) in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Burma).  I’m enjoying going through my 2nd book (DocWALK) as I put together 60 class hours covering my two books (DocTALK is the first of these two books).

[If you are interested in getting a copy of either DocTALK or DocWALK, just send me $10 and I’ll ship a copy to you.  My home address in on the right side of this page.]

DocWALK is particularly relevant because it asks the question “How do we put in practice what we say we believe?”  It is divided into four parts:  Part 1: The Believer’s Acceptance and the Believer’s Authority; Part 2: The Believer’s Anatomy (where we talk about the use of our minds, the danger of our tongues, the challenge to present our bodies to the Lord, etc.); Part 3: The Believer’s Associations (both with unbelievers and with the family of God), and Part 4: The Believer’s Attitudes, Actions, Assurance, and Anticipation.

Other than being extremely proud of my (rare) alliteration, I believe you’ll find each of these chapters helpful in living out the Christian life. Again, please pray for me and my trip to Myanmar.

Pray for My Teaching Trip to Myanmar August 9-September 4! (Part 3)

Friends: As I prepare to teach two theology courses to students at the South East Asia Bible College (here is their website) in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Burma), I earnestly would appreciate your prayers for this trip. The Lord has kindly given me opportunities in the past to teach in Asia in 2000 (India) and I recently had the privilege of teaching at Word of Life Bible Institute in South Korea.

I will be going over the basic doctrines of the Christian faith, using my two books DocTALK and DocWALK.  DocTALK is a study of all ten areas of Christian faith, such as the doctrine of God, the doctrine of salvation, and the doctrine of the Scriptures.

We’ll be using DocTALK for SEBC’s 3rd and 4th year students.   Please pray for me that I will be able to connect with their situation in Myanmar and will have God’s wisdom in making the truths of Scripture relevant to their needs.

I will also teach a course to M.Div. students and we will be using my follow-up book to DocTALK entitled DocWALK.  DocWALK asks the question, how do we put into practice what we say we believe?

Because both these books were written with a Western, American audience in mind, I’m a bit concerned about how they will practically relate to the situations of these believers in Myanmar.  Would you pray about that need, specifically?  I don’t know how these students will be in class, but I deeply care about our class discussions being relevant.  Thank you.

Writer’s block!

FirefoxScreenSnapz061UPDATE ON MY WRITING PROJECTS:

As some of you know, I’m on study leave this semester from my teaching duties at Columbia International University Seminary and School of Ministry (we have pretty large bumper stickers).

After serving two weeks on the OM ship Logos Hope in Singapore and Thailand, I have the rest of the semester to pursue a number of writing projects.  Here are a few of them:

1.  “Twelve Atheists Who Have Trusted Christ”:   I’ve been working on the first chapter of this book and it is tentatively entitled “C.S. Lewis: Mere Atheist.”  I’ve got a few contacts to pursue, but if you know of any believers who wandered for a while in atheism before trusting Christ, I’d appreciate contact information.

2.  “Saved!  Rescued from God, by God, and for God.”  This manuscript is with my agent waiting to be pitched to publishers.  I’m really excited about this one which is about 98% finished.  The chapter titles are:  LOST, LOVED, LURED, LEARNING, LABELED, LIBERATED, and LAUNCHED.  The Epilogue is quite challenging and is entitled LOATHED!

3.  “One-Year DocDEVOS”:  Some of you may know that one KeynoteScreenSnapz065of my earlier books is called “DocDEVOS: Ten-Minute Daily Devotionals on the Great Doctrines of the Christian Faith.”  There are ten areas of doctrine in Christian theology, and the original DocDEVOS covered only the first three areas (in yellow).  I want to write devotionals for the other seven areas.  The total number of devotionals would be about 300-325.  A friend of mine refers to my original DocDEVOS as a “kind of Daily Bread with teeth.”

4.  “Working Out Your Own . . . Faith”:  I have already developed five of these theological workbooks.  These are lay-flat, fill in the blank, self-studies of the ten areas of theology.  I’m very enthused for this project.  I believe most Christians would enjoy going through these Workbooks and working out their own understanding of the truths of the Scriptures.  This proposal is also with my agent.

Microsoft PowerPointScreenSnapz0025.  “DocTALK” and “DocWALK” and “Heaven: Thinking Now about Forever”:  I want to check into the possibility of having these earlier books republished, perhaps with some added material (such as study questions).  DocTALK is a survey of all then areas of Christian theology and DocWALK asks the questions, “How do we put these truths into practice.  When Temptation Strikes is a study of both temptation and sin, suggesting a number of strategies in not simply avoiding sin, but of moving on in godliness.

There are other projects that I am working on, but I value any feedback from any of you on these works.  Thanks.  Larry

A Great Deal on Three of My Books!

Friends:

Three of my books have been made available to me at a discounted price.

The first book is DocTalk which is a survey of all ten areas of Christian doctrine.  This book is written for laypeople who want to review the doctrine of Christ, the doctrine of the church, the doctrine of sin, etc.  The chapters have some humor and each section has several discussion questions.  DocTalk would be suitable for a Sunday School class.

The second book is a follow-up to DocTalk and is entitled DocWalk.  This is a practical application of the doctrines studied in DocTalk.  The subtitle of DocWalk is “Putting into Practice What You Say You Believe.”

The third book which is available at a discount is the first book I’ve written and is entitled The Other Side of the Good News: Confronting Contemporary Challenges to Jesus’ Teaching on Hell.  This is the most academic book I’ve written and deals with such issues as alternatives to the doctrine of eternal lostness such as universalism, annihilationism, and after-death opportunities to believe the gospel.  I discuss viewpoints advanced by people like the late John Stott and Clark Pinnock.

These books are available for $5 each plus shipping ($2.50 per book).  Please send your pre-paid order to:
