SUPERBOWL HALF-TIME SHOW (Satire from the Babylon Bee)

MIAMI, FL—Super Bowl organizers were really worried about the risk of a wardrobe malfunction for the 2020 halftime show. Previous errors have caused millions to be exposed to terrible things like nudity, cursing, and The Black-Eyed Peas for the first time.

Instead of risking a wardrobe malfunction this year, event planners decided to eliminate most of the singers’ wardrobes.

“We didn’t want to risk someone’s shirt or pants falling off, so we just got rid of the shirt and pants,” said one choreographer. “You can’t have a wardrobe malfunction without a wardrobe. It’s a genius plan.” In another major precaution, showrunners eliminated the possibility of a musical error by not featuring actual music.

Unfortunately, the plan backfired, and a wardrobe malfunction occurred anyway, causing a small amount of clothing to be placed on both celebrities by mistake.

Editor: And this was supposed to be a family-friendly show?! Complete with strippers’ poles?

Nation Approves Pushing Hollywood into Pacific Ocean — Babylon Bee satire

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A new law passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump Thursday approves a plan to push Hollywood into the Pacific Ocean, sources in Washington are reporting.

The new law calls for federal officials to build or acquire a giant hand saw and make a rough incision along the outside of the central district of Los Angeles, leaving a large enough buffer so as to be sure that none of Hollywood would remain, allowing the scandal-ridden Tinseltown and its occupants to simply drift out to sea.

The plan comes amidst a continuous string of sexual scandals and horrific crimes that have come to light, perpetrated by some of the biggest Hollywood stars.

“For the well-being of all Americans, we’re just gonna hack it off,” Trump said at the bill’s signing. “It’s one of those cases like in the movies where you’ve got a really infected leg or arm and you’ve just gotta take action or else it’s gonna spread. It’s not good. It’s sad. But it’s gotta be done.”

“Yeah, sure, we’re gonna lose some of the other parts of L.A., and Santa Monica is toast, but that’s just collateral damage. It’s a fair deal,” he added.

The move was applauded by the majority of the nation, though some celebrities in New York voiced concern about the safety of their own city.

Getting to Know . . . 2 Samuel! (2:8-32) War Between Brothers!

Our text this morning is a bit lengthy. But please read the passage before seeing my comments:
David has been anointed as king in Hebron and has thanked the men from Jabesh Gilead for their bravery in retrieving the body of Saul.

But Abner, the son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, took Saul’s son Ish-Bosheth and made him king over several tribes and “all Israel” (v. 9). Ish-Bosheth was 40 years old and reigned two years over Israel. The tribe of Judah remained loyal to David. David reigned in Hebron for 7 and 1/2 years.

Abner and Ish-Bosheth and his men meet up with David’s men at the pool of Gibeon. Abner suggests to Joab “let’s have some of the young men get up and fight hand to hand in front of us.” (v. 14). Two dozen men fought and Abner’s men were defeated by David’s men.

Fleet-footed Asahel chased Abner, was warned twice to stop, but was then killed by Abner. Joab and Abishai pursue Abner. Abner calls out to Joab, “Must the sword devour forever? Don’t you realize that this will end in bitterness? How long before you order your men to stop pursuing their fellow Israelites?” (v. 26).

Joab stops his troops from pursuing Abner. 19 of David’s men were found missing, but David’s men had killed 360 Benjamites who were with Abner. They bury Asahel in Bethlehem. Joab and his men marched all night and arrived at Hebron at daybreak.

Several takeaways for me:
1. It is always sad when God’s people fight against God’s people! Here we have two kings — David and Ish-Bosheth — ruling over parts of Israel. God warned that there would be problems with a human king. Now there are two.
2. Entertainment can be extremely dangerous! It appears that Abner and Joab have their two dozen young men fight to entertain them?
3. Being swift of foot is no substitute for soundness of mind. Asahel may be the poster boy for milers, but his impetuosity lost him his life!
4. War must always be a last option. Abner’s appeal to Joab to stop the bloodshed was a stroke of sanity in the sadness of brother killing brother.

Time for a Great Cartoon! (environmentalism)

Screen Shot 2014-12-14 at 8.01.35 AMWe are polluters at heart.  We pollute our environment, our culture, and ourselves.  My wife and I were watching a movie the other night (“Land of the Lost” with Will Farrell), and we were disgusted! Within the first few minutes, there were numerous vulgarities, sexual references, and even the inappropriate touching of . . .  (well, you can guess).  This is a movie rated PG-13.  We had to turn the movie off.

It’s one thing to criticize Hollywood for its pollution, but we watch and buy Screen Shot 2014-12-21 at 8.27.42 AMand rent, don’t we?  In my files I have a cartoon of a TV repairman holding up the cable to a lady’s TV and he says, “I’ve found the source of the stench, Ma’am.  It’s your cable TV!”

Your thoughts?
