Psalms of the Salter: Some Thoughts on Really Living for the Lord: Psalm 120

Psalm 120

A song of ascents.screen-shot-2016-12-02-at-6-03-33-am

I call on the Lord in my distress,
    and he answers me.
Save me, Lord,
    from lying lips
    and from deceitful tongues.

What will he do to you,
    and what more besides,
    you deceitful tongue?
He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,
    with burning coals of the broom bush.

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
    that I live among the tents of Kedar!
Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
I am for peace;
    but when I speak, they are for war.

Psalms of My Life (Psalm 12)

Psalm 12[a]

For the director of music. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David.

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;
    those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.Screen Shot 2014-12-19 at 7.37.54 AM
Everyone lies to their neighbor;
    they flatter with their lips
    but harbor deception in their hearts.

May the Lord silence all flattering lips
    and every boastful tongue—
those who say,
    “By our tongues we will prevail;
    our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan,
    I will now arise,” says the Lord.
    “I will protect them from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,
    like silver purified in a crucible,
    like gold[c] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safeScreen Shot 2014-12-19 at 7.41.15 AM
    and will protect us forever from the wicked,
who freely strut about
    when what is vile is honored by the human race.
